Housing Minister Urges Agencies to Innovate and Deliver Affordable Housing

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has urged the leadership of all housing agencies to come up with innovative solutions to deliver affordable housing solutions for Nigerians.

He also charged federal housing agencies to focus on innovation and audacity in the collective quest to deliver the Renewed Hope Agenda for Housing.

Dangiwa made the call during a multi-agency meeting with the heads of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company, and Family Homes Fund Limited at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

He explained that the meeting became necessary as part of efforts to synergise initiatives within the housing ecosystem which will match the size of the housing challenge that the country faces.

Dangiwa noted that the agencies were strategically established to cater to all segments of the housing market, but that they have fallen short of expectations in delivering affordable housing for Nigerians.

He said that the government expects all federal housing agencies to work with the clear understanding that at the core of what they do is providing housing to Nigerians across all income segments.

Dangiwa reiterated the ambitious plans for housing as captured in the Renewed Hope Agenda and called for increased urgency in the delivery of housing tangibles.

He said that the population is rapidly increasing and the demand for housing is rising, and that the agencies must act with urgency to solve the problem.

The minister’s charge to the housing agencies is a reminder of the importance of innovation and audacity in addressing the housing challenge in Nigeria. The agencies must come up with new and creative solutions to deliver affordable housing for all Nigerians.
