Award-winning Teacher Compensated With A House In Edo

The governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has planned to redeem the house pledged to Mrs. Benedicta Idele, a biology teacher at Asoro Grammar School (Senior), who won first place in the 2021 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.

Idele would receive the keys to a residence at the Emotan Gardens housing project, which was created by the Edo State Development and Property Agency and is located in Sakponba, Edo State, the state government announced on Thursday.

The biology instructor received several awards in 2021, including Best Science Teacher, Best Public School Teacher, Edo State’s Overall Best Teacher, and M-Pulse Educator for 2021 from the Mobile Telephone Network.

The estate’s completed units will be delivered by the EDPA to subscribers at the estate site in Upper Sakponba, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

The award-winning teacher said she was motivated by the governor’s outstanding support for the education sector in the state, for which he was awarded the Nigeria Union of Teachers’s Best Governor of the Year 2019.

She said, “I took the governor’s award as a challenge. I am happy that I was recognised nationally for the commitment put in the classroom.

“Some people had said the promise of a house was a mere political statement, which may not be fulfilled. But I am happy that I have now been called to come for the handover ceremony of the house.”

“As he has continued to show, the governor is a man of his words and I am happy to be receiving this award. This is a great honour and I am really grateful,” Mrs. Idele added.
